Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport – Arusha

We greet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport “KIA” and wish you a very warm welcome to Tanzania. We then drive back to your lodge in Arusha and do a briefing about your safari, which starts the next morning.

Day 2: Arusha – Arusha National Park – Arusha

After a leisurely breakfast, visit Arusha National Park. With a size of 137 km 2 it lies between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. With altitudes ranging from 1,500 m at Lake Momella to the summit of Mount Meru at 4,565 m, this mountain park includes the different vegetation levels from tropical semi-arid to high alpine. The flora and fauna is correspondingly diverse. You will go on a 2-hour guided hike through the park. After that, the game drives continue. In the late afternoon you will return to your lodge.

Day 3: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, start into Tarangire National Park with packed lunch. After 2 hours you arrive at the park gate and the game drives begin. The park offers you a magnificent, wide panorama of open acacia forests with grass savannas and large herds of elephants. Established in 1970 from former hunting grounds, Tarangire National Park is home to the largest population of wildlife outside of the Serengeti ecosystem. The baobab trees grow in abundance and the “candles” of the candelabra trees fan out into the sky. For bird lovers, the park has even more to offer: screeching flocks of colorful black-headed lovebirds, as well as the slightly less conspicuous red-tailed weavers and gray glossed starlings. In the late afternoon you will reach your camp.

Accommodation: Lake Burunge Tented Camp

Day 4: Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara National Park – Karatu

Today you leave the Tarangire National Park and visit the neighboring Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara National Park is rather small at 330 km 2 . Beyond the front gate, the road winds through a lush, jungle-like aquifer forest where hundreds of baboons laze by the roadside. The forest opens up into a forest and grassland landscape to the swampland surrounding the lake itself. Lake Manyara is an alkaline lake. In the late afternoon you will reach your lodge high on the African Rift Valley.

Accommodation: Pamoja Serengeti Karatu

Day 5: Karatu – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, leave Karatu and drive to Serengeti National Park. On the way you will visit a Maasai village . The outstanding importance of the Serengeti was documented towards the end of the 1950s by Bernhard and his son Michael Grzimek in the film “The Serengeti Shall Not Die”. A ubiquitous experience in Tanzania’s largest national park is the fight to the death between predator and prey. Prides of golden-maned lions make rich prey thanks to the abundance of herbivores. Solitary leopards frequent the acacia tree-lined Seronera River, while cheetahs roam the southeastern plains in abundance. Arrive at your camp in the central Serengeti in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast embark on game drives in the Serengeti. You will see part of the “Big 5” (lion, rhino, elephant, water buffalo and leopard, the rhino is very rarely seen in the Serengeti). The Serengeti is undoubtedly one of the largest and most impressive wildlife sanctuaries on earth. This is where the endless expanse of Africa and the immense biodiversity of the African animal world are best documented. In the late afternoon you return to your camp.

Accommodation: Pamoja Serengeti

Day 7: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu

After breakfast, leave the Serengeti and visit the Ngorongoro Crater. Several million years ago a volcano rose from the height of Mount Kilimanjaro at this point. Due to tectonic movements of the rift valley, the cone collapsed, leaving behind a fantastic caldera, today’s Ngorongoro Crater. Predominantly herbivores live on the crater floor. But there are also lions, gebhards and hyenas. If you are very lucky you can see one of the very rare rhinos. In the late afternoon you climb the crater rim again and arrive at your lodge in Karatu.

Day 8: Karatu – Arusha Airport – Zanzibar / or Kilimanjaro International Airport
